The 8-Step Checklist for Writing a Book Report
While there are times when reading is utilised by children as a relaxing activity to increase their appreciation for a good story, there are occasions when a book report activity at school is assigned to a piece of reading. A good book report is dependent on covering all of the necessary points needed to provide the reader with a concise synopsis of the book. This activity can also, however, be an inspiring and thought-developing experience for children allowing them to engage into in-depth thinking about the story, the author and any messages the author may wish to pass on.
In researching and discussing what makes for an excellent book report the following points came to the forefront and have been listed in the following 8-Step checklist to help your child write a fantastic report! So take a copy of the points below, give them to your child and help them to better formulate a future book report.
The 8-Step Checklist for Writing a Great Book Report
1. Spend a few minutes thinking about the book you have read.
2. In your introduction give the title and the name of the author of the book.
3. State what you feel would be a good age for the readers of the book.
4. Write a brief paragraph what the book is about but be careful not to give away the ending.
5. Mention your favourite character or scene and state reasons why it was your favourite. Was there a least favourite character or scene? You could include this too!
6. Write your personal opinion about the book and state why you liked or did not like it.
7. What did you learn from the story? Any morals or important messages?
8. Most importantly! Check your work over for correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
